Ongoing Projects
1.
Prehistoric
Landscapes of Tamil Nadu: This project investigates questions
related to the
Palaeolithic and early Mesolithic, looking into the distribution of
sites, the nature of cultural transitions, changing adaptations as related to
Quaternary environments, and questions related to chronology.
Excavations, surveys, and use of satellite remote sensing and GIS, in
addition to a range of specialist studies in geomorphology,
geochronology, palaeobotany and palaeontology are involved in this
project.

2. Culture Resource
Management: Prehistoric sites in India are being destroyed at a
rapid pace. We are developing models by which culture resource
management policies may be implemented in regions rich in prehistoric
remains. This involves a combination of field surveys, use of satellite
remote sensing and GIS, in addition to extensive community heritage
education programs. This is in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organsiation (ISRO) and Regional Remote Sensing Service Centre (RRSSC),
Bengaluru, India.

3.
Children's Museum &
Community Heritage Education: We believe that
communicating recent research to the general public, in
particular children and teachers, will go a long way towards
promoting Indian archaeology. We work with children and
teachers from primarily underprivileged backgrounds, in
order to make the study of the past fun. Our workshops cover topics in
archaeology, art and architecture, epigraphy and numismatics,
anthropology, ecology, past and present environments, folk culture, and
much more.
This is done via our children's museum.
Our new museum complex: KOLAM CHILDREN'S MUSEUM is being developed in
Sholinganallore, Chennai.
4. History of Indian
Archaeology: We are building up a repository of information on
pioneers in Indian Prehistory.
A
biography of of whom Robert Bruce Foote, is currently in progress
read:
The Untold Story
of Robert Bruce Foote
...(pdf).
5.
Consultants: The Department of
Archaeology, State Government of Tamil Nadu used our
services in the form of honorary expert advise on latest excavation
methodology at the sites of Mangudi and Perur, Tamil Nadu.
We are also helping them in an honorary capacity in catalouging and preparing a
database of their prehistoric stone tool collections.
6. Legal Issues:
Conservation of India's heritage is a vital issue today, in
the light of rapid destruction of sites, smuggling of
antiquities and other illegal activities. We provide
legal advise
to those who wish to protect
this heritage, and to those who require more information on legal
issues. Our legal advisors are available for consultation with prior
appointment.
