Following Total Station contour mapping of the site at 1 m contour intervals (total area 50,000 m2), we excavated test-pits, horizontally laid out trenches and geological step trenches across the site. An area of over 500 m3 was excavated. IKONOS satellite data at 1 m intervals was used to study geomorphological features at and around the site. Mapping of the surface sediments and stratigraphy was conducted not only at the site but down the neighbouring streams and gullies.
