Library

Our Libray has at present: 

  • A total of 1328 books on archaeology, anthropology, ethnoarchaeology, geoarchaeology, geology, geography, palaeoenvironments, history, botany, zoology, chemistry, biographies and fiction. 
  • Selected issues from 39 journals related to archaeology and anthropology.
  • Around 3000 offprints on archaeology and related disciplines.

Our Library comprises the following: 

  • Dr. Gudrun Corvinus Collection: The late Dr. Corvinus was a pioneering prehistorian and geologist who worked in India, Nepal and S. Africa. Her excavations at the site of Chirki in India, and the establishment of sound foundations for the study of prehistory in Nepal on a sound foundation are lasting contributions. Her heirs kindly donated her books, papers, offprints, maps, photographs and slides to our library, that are currently being catalouged. 
  • Dr. V.N. Sharma Collection: The late Dr. V.N. Sharma was a pioneer in the field of education, a noted writer in German and Telugu, who translated numerous literary texts including the Edda into Telugu. His collected papers as also books on education, history and philosophy are in our collection. He was the founder of the Children's Garden School Society, along with Mrs.Ellen Sharma. 
  • Professor N.C.Ghosh Collection: The late Professor Ghosh was the former Dean, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Viswabharati, Santiniketan & Professor Department of A.I.H.C,  and also served in the Archaeological Survey of India. His noted contributions include research at many Buddhist and Harappan sites, including excavations at Satanikota. 
  • Dr. Malti Nagar Collection:  The late Dr. Nagar, Retired from the Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute, Pune. She kindly donated her entire collection of books, offprints and ethnographic collections.Dr. Malti Nagar was a pioneer in the field of ethnoarchaeology in South Asia. 
  • Professor V.N.Misra Collection: The late Professor Misra, retired as Director, Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute, Pune. A  renowned scholar in the field of Indian prehistory, he laid the foundations for Indian prehistory. His entire collection of offprints comprising research papers on archaeology and anthropology presented to him by leading scholars, worldwide are being classified and catalouged in our Centre.  
  • Dr. Arun Sinha Collection: The late Dr. Sinha, was a computer scientist with a great interest in Indian heritage. He kindly donated his books to us.
  • Professor S.Pappu collection: Dr. Pappu's books are currently on loan in our library.
  • Professor Sheila Mishra (retd. Deccan College, Pune), Professor P.P. Joglekar (Deccan College, Pune) and Dr. K.P. Mohandas (Archaeological Survey of India) have kindly donated books and journals to the library. 

Donations: We welcome donations of books and journals (second-hand books are also welcome). An online catalouge of books, journals and offprints available with us will be available shortly. We seek donations to enable us to access online books and journals.
